We are seeking a talented chief of staff to work with our team. This person will be responsible for directly supporting the leadership team with strategic planning, hiring/management, advising on company policies, stakeholder communication, managing project initiatives, and assisting with presentations to the board. This role is a unique opportunity for an experienced operations manager to work with a small but ambitious mission-oriented team, enhance their skillset and build relationships with key education, corporate, and philanthropic influencers.

From day one, the chief of staff will have an immediate impact on the team’s productivity -- streamlining strategic initiatives, amplifying the leadership, overseeing program management, and cross-coordinating objectives between team members.

CodePath is an innovative education 501(c)(3) nonprofit building the largest pipeline of high-performing, underrepresented software engineers in the industry. We are the first organization in history to centralize student support, curriculum, and classroom operations across dozens of for-credit, in-person college classrooms.   • Oversee strategic business initiatives from development through successful execution under the guidance of senior leadership and heads
  • Amplify and support department heads by helping to offload work or source specialized contractors in order to meet our organizational outcomes
  • Assist and communicate with leadership in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation
  • Review, design, and execute improvements within the organization, find knowledge and skills gaps and help address them
  • Improve current processes and coordinate organizational procedures for better team-wide efficiency and productivity

About You

As a Chief of Staff, you will be an integral part of the leadership team and touch almost every aspect of the business. You will be serving as a strategic advisor and counsel to other leaders in the organization, assuming day-to-day responsibility for projects and tasks, and creating and maintaining cross-departmental relationships. You’ll play a crucial role in making the leadership team more productive, organized, efficient and influencing the overall direction of the organization. The right candidate has strong experience working in high performing, high-growth environments and is passionate about education, technology and it’s potential to transform lives.

The chief of staff will integrate themselves into the center of our organization and assess issues that serve as barriers to a team or organization operating at maximum effectiveness. Helping other team members to be able to focus on larger strategic organizational initiatives. These daily tasks may include internal team management, meeting preparation, lead management of high-profile projects, and hiring of key supporting personnel or contractors.

We are open to a remote or onsite hire at our San Francisco office.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations through collaboration with senior management and heads, performing an array of administrative tasks from managing calendars, generating correspondence, planning and coordinating annual corporate meetings, and scheduling facilities
  • Work with leaders to directly understand priorities and key initiatives, and work to support and amplify their work, and act as a sounding board for their ideas
  • Work with leaders to hire and directly manage others in support roles, such as executive assistants, specialized contractors, speechwriters, etc. Manage sourcing processes and take over the administrative aspects including drafting and posting job descriptions, outlining interview processes, and screening candidates.
  • Work with leaders in the organization to build documentation, internal playbooks and facilitate clearer cross-team visibility for key projects and initiatives
  • Meeting preparation and follow up: reviewing upcoming meetings for the week to ensure the executive team has all of the information needed to be as productive as possible and sending out agendas or documents to meeting attendees as necessary.
  • Provide support to the CEO and leadership team spanning strategy, execution, internal/external communication, and managing stakeholders including board members, advisors, and funders.
  • Help maintain lists of funders, stakeholders, and partners with whom the leadership wants regular touchpoints, and tee up communications or arrange meetings to support ongoing relationship building.
  • Organize company retreats, conferences, and other special events. Helping to support and foster a great internal team culture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • At least 2-3 years of similar experience, preferably in a startup and tech environment
  • Interested in the education space and has a personal connection to our impact/mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – Strong command of English usage, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience using small team size collaboration and productivity tools
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Previous teaching, volunteering, or mentoring experience a plus
  • Experience working with engineers is a plus
  • Strong project reporting skills, with a focus on interdepartmental communication
