Job Description: Writing and Content Manager

Reporting to: Head of Student Career Services

About the Role

At CodePath, we are building the largest pipeline of high-performing, underrepresented software engineers in the industry. The CodePath Career Center supports this mission by providing college students with career coaching, mentorship, industry connections, and the access to opportunities needed to start a career in the tech industry. Now as we support thousands of students, hundreds of volunteers, and dozens of companies per year, we need a communications leader to streamline our messaging and help our audiences understand how to best utilize the Career Center’s services.

The Writer and Content Manager will write and communicate messaging through all methods available including the Career Center newsletter, email copy, event descriptions, partnership announcements, website copy, and ghostwriting for the Head of Student Career Services’ LinkedIn account. This work will support multiple Career Center initiatives including advertising our services to students, recruiting volunteers to participate in our programs, and supporting our sales campaigns to company recruiting teams.

You will work with our marketing and career services functions to ensure content is communicated through the CodePath voice. This role reports to the Head of Student Career Services to brainstorm ideas, review text and support aggressive growth goals.  

About Us 

CodePath.org is an early-stage nonprofit dedicated to offering an accelerated pathway into the technology industry for college students all across the US, with an emphasis on serving underserved, low-income, and first-generation students. We offer a variety of courses and services to students both directly on-campuses at colleges and remotely using video classrooms with instructors and TAs. All of these courses and services are offered to students entirely for free, funded directly by the technology industry in order to invest in the next generation of talented software engineers.

Our vision is that every student in college, regardless of background or personal circumstances, should have the opportunity, skills, network, and pathways available to become a confident and successful software engineer in the tech industry. CodePath.org develops and delivers a wide variety of programs and supports students over multiple years, reaching students in college starting before Freshman year and then all the way through to post-graduation and entering full-time software roles.

CodePath.org provides curriculum and programs for college students all across the United States, often offered for-credit at campuses, including at many HBCUs, HSIs, women’s colleges, and state colleges. Key Activities

• Generate ideas for new content based on the CodePath Career Center’s goals, objectives and audiences
• Develop and implement content in support of marketing initiatives and SEO requirements
• Write content that appeals to technical, business, and student personas
• Maintain website text and update as needed, making recommendations and facilitating changes and improvements
• Stay informed of the latest news in university recruiting and technical hiring trends
• Develop and uphold correct tone, voice, clarity, flow and structure of content
• Manage approval process for posts, releases and descriptions in tandem with the Marketing function
• Develop publishing schedules and communicate and work with team members to keep schedules on track
• Conduct keyword research and use SEO guidelines to attract more eyes to our content
• Identify target audiences and develop new topics that resonate with our customers and partners
• Coordinate with our graphic designer to illustrate the newsletter, emails, and other content
• Ensure all-around consistency (style, fonts, images and tone)
• Source stock images when needed

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience writing for both technical and business audiences, or creating content in a software or technology environment as a Content Creator or similar role
• Experience writing for student or university audiences is a strong plus
• The ability to translate complex subjects into understandable content for non-technical and technical audiences
• Excellent English writing and editing skills
• Experience developing creative and informative website copy including look and feel
• Experience translating SEO phrases into meaningful, well-crafted articles
• Familiarity with SEO rules and requirements include metadata and keyword density
• A self-starter with the ability to identify new opportunities and bring them to the Career Center team
• A meticulous eye for detail
• A passion for style guides and grammar
• BA in English, Journalism, Marketing or relevant field, advanced degrees are a plus
